Lausanne Davis Carpenter
Artist, Color Consultant, Scenery & Lighting Designer
I grew up in Hampton, Virginia. In 1986 I earned a BFA from the State University of New York (Purchase College) in Theatre Design and Technology. I worked in New York City and regional theatres as a freelance designer and painted scenery for Off-Broadway, opera, MTV, Nickelodeon, industrial shows and videos.
In 1989 I left NYC for England where I lived until 1996. There I worked as a volunteer counselor/community worker and was involved in relief work in Eastern Europe, Africa and Central Asia. I also completed several art/design commissions while in London.
I returned to the US in 1996, met my husband James and left with him in 1998 for four years of development work in Indonesia. This experience gave me the unique opportunity to appreciate South-East Asian arts and culture. We returned to the US in December 2002.
I am an Associate Member of the International Association of Color Consultants – a European-based academy that accredits architects, interior designers, environmental designers, etc. after satisfactory completion of seminars, projects and examination.
In May of 2004 I was privileged to design my first stage set a for Virginia Premiere Theatre after a 15 year hiatus from the theatre. Since then I have designed sets and/or lighting for eight VPT productions and four projects with The Electric Theatre in Scranton, PA.
